Part 2: Home Page and Navigation System, Final Project

Last week I had only received peer feedback from one student for this project, but the one I got was really useful about removing my email from the top of the contact page which I did.  In order to get feedback and suggestions I consulted family and friends on what they thought and their reactions to my portfolio.  This was helpful to get a few more suggestions which got me to thinking about how I could improve my work.

I realized that the home page looked very blank which made it feel uncreative and uninspiring.  In order to fix this, I made a bunch of shapes in Adobe Photoshop and used it as siding for the home page to create a cool frame effect but also make it feel like there is motion happening behind.  Photoshop was very easy to use to create the shapes.  Next, I added a blue square in the middle to match the shapes. I changed the shape around my painting in it to a star shape.  I thought this really help emphasize my acrylic painting of the star.  I was hoping to make this first page look less like the template.  I feel adding the star shape around my painting, square box and frame on both sides with many shapes creates a fun party feeling.  I wanted to draw the viewer in to look at my other work.

Once finished with that I thought the design of all the shapes was very nice and I wanted to make it a big part of my site. In Adobe Photoshop, I made more shapes to fit a whole page and brought it over to the About and Contact pages. (I would’ve used it in portfolio page but the page already has a lot going on, adding more would make it overwhelming.)  The faded shapes behind was created by doing a lower opacity level.  I feel this also helps give the site a consistent feeling across the board.

Then I change the text of my name at the top. At first I kept trying to make it in Photoshop, but it came out looking too sharp.  I ended up making it in Adobe Animate because Animate being a vector based platform helped give a rounded look. I could have also used Illustrator but have more experience in Animate.

Lastly, I did some small changes like freezing the header so you can see everything without it following and some slight color changes to the different blue colors I used.
