Photomontage Look Again

This project took much reflection and thought about how I would do a photomontage and do an image hijack of a famous painting to create a self-portrait photomontage.   I worked on sketches and project concepts for the photomontage.  My direction is to take normal objects that I use every day and create my self-portrait reflecting my personality, interest and beliefs.  I made sketches of a mirror which would then reflect images of myself.  I then decided to take that concept and see if I could use other items around me.  I love walking on the trails so I thought vines wrapping and twisting with images inside would be neat.  Next I thought I could use my favorite coffee mug and show reflections in the liquid.  The mailbox would be cool because it is symbolic of a place where news comes to your personal home which then I thought of a key hole looking out into the world but inside is myself.  Finally my last concept idea was to take a book and have it open as a Pop-out showing my self-portrait.

01 Preliminary Sketch:

Using Van Gogh images - inside the mirror.   Background would be of different colors.

Green Wheat Fields, Auvers, 1890 by Vincent van Gogh.  - Green wheat fields has a nice color   which would stand out.

02 Preliminary Sketch:

Vines wrapping: for this image I’d use the painting.  The Olive Orchard, 1889 by Vincent van Gogh in-between the vines.  Plan would be to create vines in Photoshop or Illustrator.  The vision is the vines would wrap/cross each other as my drawing shows.

03 Preliminary Sketch:

Mug: for this I’d combine the roses and the mug.  The roses would be a background.

Painting Roses, 1890, by Vincent van Gogh inside the mug.

04 Preliminary Sketch:

Mailbox:  for this I’d use Farmhouse in Provence, 1888 by Vincent van Gogh.

The Farmhouse in Provence has leading lines which leads your eye through the image.

05 Preliminary Sketch:

Key Hole: Looking through the key hole and you would see a photomontage.

I’d use Farmhouse in Provence, 1888 by Vincent van Gogh.

06 Preliminary Sketch:

Book:  For this one I’d use the painting The Olive Orchard, 1889 by Vincent van Gogh.  My intention is to draw a book that is open with a pop up of the painting.
