Event Poster Sketch
I decided to create an event poster for Halloween Event
that happens over at Bethel Woods which is where the 1969 Woodstock event had
taken place. I have taken classes and
did an internship over there. Also, I
have been to a few of the events and have been through the museum a few
times.
It is such a beautiful place that is rich in history with
all the memories of the amazing artist who had played at the 1969 Woodstock
festival. The Halloween festival is a
fun walk through at night where you can see carved pumpkins that are used to create
different sculptures. Some of the
pumpkins are carved out foam and other had been created by molds. I actually got to meet the artist who did
most of the carvings that you see there.
I do have some images of the festival on my phone which I
may be able to use. I’m planning on
making sure that I use white space effectively to make my images and informational text stand
out.
The “7 Elements to Consider When Designing an Event Poster”
was very helpful and it made clear “Even though most of the elements are part
of the design, designing an event poster is more than just that. You need to
remember that the item will be the first thing that people see about the occasion.”
(Arvin, 2024)
I thought about the 7 elements while doing my sketches:
1. Goal: My goal was to design a poster for a
Halloween Event at Bethel Woods.
2. Audience: All ages and people who like Halloween.
3. The White Space: I made sure there is plenty of white space
and not overcrowding
4. Text: Plan on name of event and how to find out
more information so it doesn’t go over 40%
5. Format and Structure: Plan on having name of event to be bold and
large
6. Imagery: Show iconic images of Woodstock and Halloween
7. Color: Halloween colors of
Black, Orange, Yellow

Eye Catching Design = this poster shows off one of the cool
sculptures created at Bethel Woods and could attract people to want to see the
sculptures.
Background Color = very dark night
Why this Color = a dark color would help the orange colors stand
out better.
Image = Carved pumpkins put together to look like a serpent
Logo = Bethel Woods Logo and the Event Title will go in this
section
Logo Placement = Placed at top to grab the viewer’s attention and
they would know who is holding the event.
Typography = Legitima
Why this Typography = Easy to read and gives it a luxurious fun
feeling.
Info = In this section the information about
date/time/place/website
Eye Catching Design = this poster shows the name of the festival
inside the pumpkin which is simple but eye catching from far away. I think it is also very memorable.
Background color = Dark Purple
Why this Color = Purple would help the orange stand out because it
is close to being opposite colors.
Logo = Bethel Woods Logo
Logo Placement = At the top to show who is holding the event.
Typography = Baileywick JF Gothic
Why this Typography = in this poster design I want to try out a fun
font called Baileywick JF Gothic so it gives the viewer a feeling that this
event is fun.
Image = Carved pumpkins that shows the Title of the event
Info = in this section the information about
date/time/place/website
Eye Catching Design = this poster design would be very bright
instead of using typical Halloween colors.
This would be less scary and also advertising that there are daytime
hours to bring younger children. The
pumpkins sculptures would be in the shapes of flowers set against a bright blue
background.
Background Color = Bright Blue
Why this Color = Make it fun and have the flower pumpkin sculptures
stand out.
Logo = Bethel Woods Logo
Logo Placement = at the top to show who is holding the event.
Info = Information section will be next to logo. In this section the information about
date/time/place/website.
Typography = Baileywick JF Gothic
Why this Typography = in this poster design I want to try out a fun
font called Baileywick JF Gothic so it gives the viewer a feeling that this
event is fun.
Image = carved Pumpkins shaped like flowers. Trying out information on top followed by
white space and then images.
Eye Catching Design = this poster design is to attract Halloween
lovers of the creepy crawler critters such as bats and spiders. The logo will be placed at top with white
space and then the pumpkin carved with a spider followed by the
information. A dark background should
pop off the pictures.
Background Color = Dark blue/black
Why this Color = to pop out the picture.
Logo = Bethel Woods Logo
Logo Placement = at the top so viewers know where the event is
taking place.
Image = carved pumpkins that shows a spider.
Typography = totally Gothic
Why this Typography = this font has a very spooky feeling to it and
is very easy to read which I think would work perfectly for this poster
Info = in this section the information about
date/time/place/website
Eye Catching Design = this design for a poster shows a giant
pumpkin with a carved peace sign which is representative of Bethel Woods. I was thinking maybe small Halloween fog
behind this pumpkin set off by red and orange background.
Background Color = Red/Orange background
Why this Color = this background would be used to create brightness
behind a fog that would be behind the pumpkin in a glowing effect.
Logo = Bethel Woods Logo
Logo Placement = at the top so viewers know where the event is
taking place.
Image = carved pumpkins that shows Peace symbol
Typography = Totally Gothic
Why this Typography = this font has a very spooky feeling to it and
is very easy to read which I think would work perfectly for this poster
Info = in this section the information about
date/time/place/website
Eye Catching Design = this design for a poster shows a many pumpkins
creating the peace sign which is representative of Bethel Woods. I was thinking maybe different pictures of
the event could go into each triangle which then shows off three different
scenes. There are different activities
going on during the event so this design could share that with the viewer.
Background Color = multiple colors would be behind the graphic.
Why this Color = thinking it would make the image psychedelic
feeling and also representative of Woodstock days.
Logo = Bethel Woods Logo
Logo Placement = at the top so viewers know where the event is
taking place.
Image = Carved pumpkins creating a Peace symbol
Typography = Baileywick JF Gothic
Why this Typography = In this poster design I want to try out a fun
font called Baileywick JF Gothic so it gives the viewer a feeling that this
event is fun.
