Event Poster Final

The sketch I selected from my six was the one that I received the best compliments from my classmates.  The feedback was very helpful and it was great because I had myself narrowed it down to two choices.  The sketch #6 was the finalist.  I think sketch #6 was a favorite because it was the one to be the most interesting.  It also allowed me to tell more of the story about the location of the event which is fascinating because it was the location of the original 1969 Woodstock.

Today you can go to this location called Bethel Woods and see concerts, festivals, markets and there are many class programs for all ages.  There is also a cool museum at Bethel Woods that showcases Woodstock 1969 music festival.  I was able to go to the Halloween Festival when taking a class at Bethel Woods.  The Halloween Festival is super impressive with beautifully carved pumpkins and I even got to meet the artist of the pumpkin sculptures.

I first found the Pumpkin Peace Sign Glowing and Groovy Woodstock pumpkin art on display photographed by Jessica Roda.  (Photo link below).  Next I used the free transform tool to change the perspective of the image and make it face directly towards the viewer. I tried to remove the background but since the image is really dark it took some of the pumpkins with it. In order to get around this, I made a copy of the first image and put a layer mask on it.  I opened the Curves panel and moved the white arrow until I could see all the pumpkins. See image below.

After that I used a mix of the select subject button, the paint brush and the quick selection tool. Then I moved the layer mask to the original image of the pumpkins.

Once done with the pumpkins I worked on finding the images that I wanted to appear inside the Peace Symbol.  These images I wanted to represent Bethel Woods.  I also found on the Bethel Woods website (Link Below) the actual logo that I would use in my image.

Then once I got the logo completed, I added the images from Bethel Woods website inside the peace sign.  The top right image is of a performance that happened at night and the other is of the museum building on the left side.

If you look closely at the bottom image in the Peace sign, then you will see a tree that decorated with yarn in remembrance of the Bindy Bazaar which is on a beautiful trail in the woods.  The Bindy Bazaar had been where people sold food, water and homemade souvenirs to people at the concert.  To the left is a pumpkin with the words Peace Love and Pumpkins on it.

Next I added a gradient to each image.  For the background I original had it purple as seen in image above but I changed it to natural green with yellow coming from the middle. I also added some ghost to the background which helps give it a more three dimensional feeling.

I then added the event info to the bottom of the poster and wanted to keep it similar to the logo and coloring to create harmony and balance within the poster.

After viewing my finished poster, I decided to remove the white boxes behind the text. I also changed the font color to white. The white made the text stand out on the green background. Image below shows the poster with the text in white boxes before I changed it to my final version.

During working on this project I found the video Photoshop for Beginners | FREE COURSE to be really helpful. I was having a really hard time with the layer mask but this helped me understand how layer mask work!
